We are thrilled to partner with MASSCreative, the statewide arts advocacy organization to engage candidates and voters around arts and cultural issues.

Under the banner of 'Create the Vote' – their nonpartisan, public education campaign – MASSCreative worked with Waltham based arts and cultural organizations to build a brief questionnaire to help voters get a better sense of candidate’s views on some of the issues facing the creative community.

See what the candidates have to say!

Question 1

What role do arts, culture, and creativity play in your life, your family, and your community?

question 2

What are your priority issues? What role can the creative community play in addressing these challenges?

question 3

While artists, cultural organizations, and other members of the creative community in Waltham have different needs, two common challenges keep surfacing:

  • Lack of infrastructure and coordination to effectively promote arts and culture.

  • Lack of space for artists and cultural organizations (for rehearsal, performance, artist live/work space, classes/workshops, and office space)

How will you modify or expand the City’s current administrative structure, or otherwise make changes to help address these challenges?

Special thanks to all of the candidates who generously responded to our questionnaire, to our partner MASSCreative and to all of the organizations and individuals who helped make this possible; Monique Rancourt Artisan Gallery, Joanne Raymond on behalf of the artists of Opportunities for Inclusion (formerly GWarc), Scott Shurr for the Waltham Farmers' Market, Waltham Philharmonic, Melissa Honig on behalf of WatchCity Steampunk Festival, Diane Blumstein, Rachel Borges, Francesca Cucci, Angela DeVesto, Kathleen Flynn, Alex Hoekstra, Jen Lawless, Elizabeth Moy, Joe Niedbala, Maria Photinakis, Sandrine Schaefer, Andrea Tishman, Michael Wilson, Antoinette Winters, Wendy Wolf
